To the South Central Community:
Our school year is nearly three-fourths complete; before long, we will be enjoying sunshine and outdoor activities!
Congratulations to our Winter Sports participants and coaches on a great season. Tournament action for boys and girls basketball teams was exciting. Congratulations to girls basketball coach, John Vogel, and to the boys basketball coach, Brett Seidel, for being named Firelands Conference coaches of the year. Kudos to our wrestlers who participated in tournament action. Congratulations to all our junior high and high school basketball teams for their various Firelands Conference championship winnings! And, way to go to our Powerlifting team for their awesome winnings this season. Now, our halls and gyms are filled with track, baseball and softball practices!
The South Central PTO, through various local business partnerships, is sponsoring a wall mural in the K8 cafeteria. Painter Beth Sage is doing a marvelous job with the wall mural. It is exciting to witness the energy this mural is creating in our building.
Our school system continues to maintain safety and security as top priorities. The Safety and Security Team provides quality recommendations, and training scenarios, for our staff and students. In February, the K8 building participated in lockdown simulations; the students and staff were amazing in their serious participation and reflection afterwards. We know we cannot prevent an emergency from happening on our campus, but with continued commitment to trainings and practices, we will hopefully be better prepared to react. My goal will always be safety of our children. I encourage you to engage in discussions with your child about school and community safety in an effort to be prepared to act in the event of an emergency. Please call your child’s principal, or me, if you have specific questions or concerns.
I continue to simply enjoy my position as superintendent in this awesome district. When I walk through the halls of both buildings, and stop into classrooms occasionally, I continue to be excited about the awesome enthusiasm for teaching and learning that happens continuously and regularly. When I am stopped by community members, the typical response is one of pride for the school system. This makes me proud to be a Trojan!
Check back to this webpage for periodic updates from me on the activities and successes of our school. I will attempt to provide new messages monthly.
Together we can,
Ben Chaffee, Jr.
