South Central FFA Members Get Down and Dirty at County Soils Judging Contest by Joe Pennell, FFA Reporter Soils Judging Teams When judging the soil, students are mainly looking for texture, depth, erosion, slope, and drainage. The rural judging team consisted of Kevin Poth, Chris Morgan, Frank Gannett, Theo Bacon, Maggie Bacon, Abby Hord, Jared Poth, Joe Pennell, and head coach Mr. Chaffee. The urban judging team consisted of Robert Gannett, Owen Baker, Ryan Thomas, Lance Isaac, Justin Twary, Garrett Verburg, Heath Hanshaw, Austin Boudinot, head coach Mrs. Lucha, and helper Cory Staniford. Both the rural and urban teams received 1st place. Individually in the urban team, Heath placed 1st, Austin placed 9th, Lance placed 4th, Justin placed 6th, Garrett placed 3rd, and Robert placed 7th. Individually in the rural team, Frank placed 1st, Chris placed 2nd, Theo placed 3rd, Maggie placed 4th, Kevin placed 5th, Joe placed 6th, Jared placed 7th, and Abby placed 8th.
