Three members of the South Central FFA have placed top four in the state for their proficiencies.

The Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through their SAEs, have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Students can compete for awards in 47 areas covering everything from Agricultural Communications to Wildlife Management. Their SAE could be either Placement or Entrepreneurship. Placement SAEs are related to employment, apprenticeships, or internships at an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization. Entrepreneurship SAEs are related to ownership of an agribusiness or agriculture-related enterprise. Terry Copsey and Bethany Lortcher both have placed in Poultry Production Placement. This is their 2nd year in a row placing top four in the state. Terry works with on his family chicken farm. He raises chicken, takes care of their nutritional needs, and inspects the chickens to make sure they are healthy and stay healthy. Terry mentioned while talking about his Proficiency, “My favorite part about my SAE is being able to continue on with the same SAE my sister did when she was a FFA member several years ago. Also, being able to grow with the operation.” Bethany Lortcher works at a local chicken farm and also works on her family farm. Bethany, same as Terry, takes care of nutritional needs, inspects their health, keep accurate records of the chickens. In a recent interview Bethany mentions, “Placing top four in State 2 years in a row is very exciting, a huge opportunity and a blessing. I hope to accomplish my dream of winning state and getting 1st.” Kaycee Burton has placed in Agricultural Communications where she writes reports and provides a scrapbook of everything the chapter has accomplished. When asked what her goal is to do with her SAE Kaycee states, “I hope by writing ag related articles the public will be more informed about what the FFA does. Also to raise the awareness of Agriculture.” These members will be interviewed at the upcoming State Convention and then will be placed at one of the sessions.
