Kindergarten Registration

If your child will be 5 years old before August 1st, 2018,  you need to start thinking about signing your child up for kindergarten for the 2018 year!  You can register your child for kindergarten during the month of March from 9:00am-2:00pm in the elementary office.  Please bring the following with you: the child's birth certificate, social security card, immunization record, proof of residency, and custody papers (if applicable).

You do not need to bring your child with you to registration.  An appointment for the Kindergarten Screening will be made at this time as well.  The Kindergarten Screenings will take place on Thursday May 3rd from 1:00pm-8:00pm and on Friday May 4th from 8:00am-11:00am.  This will be by appointment only so please make sure you sign up early.  We look forward to seeing you soon!

Barn Hill Animal Preserve

We had the Barn Hill Animal Preserve make a trip to our school last week.  There were two assemblies, one for K-4 and one for 5-8.  The preserve brought animals that were not native to Ohio including a baby kangaroo, bearded dragon, hedgehog, armadillo, skink and a tourtoise.  The presenters walked around with each animal and shared with the students information about them.  Students were also able to get a picture with one of the animals for only $10.  Best of all-this was a free assembly for our students!  A special thanks to the Barn Hill Animal Preserve for making this exciting assembly possible!

Reading to Students in English and Spanish

Reading to the class. Miss Jordan's class had a special treat when they had a story read to them.  But there was something different about this story because Miss Jordan and Mrs. Cabello read to the class in both English and Spanish!  Each teacher took turns reading the page to the class who sat in amazement.  What a wonderful experience for everyone!

Bowling at Dynasty Lanes

The Elementary students were rewarded for great behavior for the second quarter and took a bowling trip to Dynasty Lanes!  As you can see from the pictures, the students had such an awesome time bowling!  I cannot say enough of how proud I am of our students and their terrific behavior-keep it up!

Pepperoni Roll Fundraiser

The Elementary will have a Pepperoni Roll fundraiser starting next week. Order forms will go home with the students on February 26 and the order forms are due March 9th with a delivery date of March 21.  The pepperoni rolls are only $2 each and can be bought indivdually or by the case (13 to a case).  All proceeds go to the Principal's Account which goes to help pay for field trips, student incentives, etc.  Any help in reaching our goal of selling 2,000 pepperoni rolls would be greatly appeciated!  Please feel free to post at your work or share on Facebook.  The class that sells the most rolls will have a pepperoni roll party!

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!

I would like to thank the students, parents and staff for a great start to the 2017-2018 school year!  Your help and understanding for arrival and dismissal has really made a large impact on keeping the flow of traffic moving while maintaining the safety of everyone.  Thank you so much for your help with this!

We have several new staff members this year including our new secretary Mrs. Lisa Madison.  We have a new resource room for the Elmentary wing, implemented breakfast in the classrooms as well as added four new Chromebook carts.  These are definately exciting times at the Elementary and we look forward to a terrific school year.

One last thing parents need to be aware of is the new attendance law.  We now have to keep track of minutes missed by a student including excused abscenses.  Students are marked as missing minutes of school after 7:30 a.m.

If you ever have a question or concern, please feel free to reach out to me. Thank you again for your continued support of South Central Schools.

A Special Thank You to Linda Teglovic

A special Thank You goes out to Linda Teglovic who retired as the secretary of South Central Elementary.  We thank her not only for her service and dedication to South Central, but also for the enormous impact she has had on our lives.  Thank you for being such an awesome person-we love you!

Donations Request

The Elementary is looking to raise funds for new technology and we are looking for some help from the community.  I am looking for someone local that may be interested in donating a product or service that we could raffle off to the community to help raise funds for the technology.  If anyone would be interested in making a donation or have suggestions on who I could call for one, please contact me at the school at 419-752-5021.  Your help is greatly appreciated!  Mr. Richards

Reading Connection

Each month we will be sending home a Reading Connection newsletter which is also on the elementary website on the left hand side of the page.  The purpose is to get students involved with reading at home as well as school.  Each newsletter is filled with various reading activities you can do with your child at home.  We hope you will take advantage of this awesome resource!

Bubble Science Assembly

As you can tell from the pictures below that our Bubble Science Assembly was a huge success.  Students learned how bubbles were made and the science behind it.  Several students and staff members were participants in the assembly as well!

Bubble Science Assembly

We will be having our quarterly assembly to reward student behavior on April 1 at 1:45 entitle Bubble Science.  Students may come to the assembly if they have no office referrals for the quarter.  This will be an exciting assembly and I look forward to seeing all of the students at the assembly.  Needless to say there should be some great pictures from this assembly!
