Good evening, this is Ben Chaffee, Jr., the proud superintendent of South Central Schools.
The South Central “Return to School” plan has been thoroughly reviewed by the South Central Board of Education, administrative team, and faculty/staff. Additionally, great input and support has been provided by the Huron County Health District. It is essential for the School District, Health District and community to work together to prevent the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in the student population and in the community.
At last night’s meeting, the board of education did approve the Return to School Plan for Preschool and K-12 students. The plan in its entirety can be found on the district website at www.south-central.org. Essentially, there are four Levels of Instruction, ranging in Green, Yellow, Orange or Red. These levels of instruction attempt to coincide somewhat with the state’s color coding system for each county. However, it should be noted that the plan does allow for some overlapping of our levels of instruction with the various county color codes. For example, if Huron County is in an Orange status, our level of instruction options would be either Yellow or Orange depending on recommendations from the Huron County Health District. It must also be noted that our level of instruction may change throughout the course of the school year based on the status of our county, state and/or nation in regards to COVID-19.
It is my hope that this plan provides detailed information to parents/guardians and students regarding expectations for the 2020-2021 school year, depending on which Level of instruction the school district implements. I can be reached at 419-752-3815 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
It is my hope to be able to officially announce which level of instruction South Central Schools will use to begin the 2020-21 school year by early to mid next week. I will be making another phone call to announce this level of instruction. Until then, thank you for your patience and continue enjoying the wonderful summer.
