We have acquired some additional Chromebooks with grant monies in the district to support the Title classrooms and fill some of the Elementary Carts that were shared between classrooms. The resource rooms and Speech program have acquired some iPads and software to help students in their programs.
Our High School will be offering some additional Computer and Business courses that students will have the opportunity to select as electives. The teacher will be bringing Video Production to the High School as well as a STEM program and Microsoft courses. We also currently have a Digital Art Class using Adobe Creative Cloud.
The High School Spanish teacher has been using Ed Puzzle as a tool for assessing interpretive listening. She also created a Virtual Bitmoji Classroom for one of her projects.
Mrs. Grose has been using Google Slides, Screencastify, Google Forms, GimKit, and Edulastic for Quizzes. Her gifted Math class put together a Project called “A Digital Math Tale”. Students were asked to write a story in Google slides, building on each other’s story parts. They were also to have enough math in the story that they could build fun, rich math problems by the end of the story.
The Music Departments worked together using iMovie, GarageBand, Smart Music, and WeVideo. Students started with Smart Music online to view music parts and recorded their parts. They recorded themselves using iMovie and GarageBand. Together with the Choir, they created a production of the Alma Mater. The choir studied music and moods, music and history, music in film, and many other facets of music virtually using YouTube and Google Classroom.
Third-grade teachers have been posting assignments and announcements on Google Classroom. Some of the assignments and online activities include: IXL, BrainPop, Jr., Readworks.org, Accelerated Reader, and Epic! Mrs. Middaugh has used Flipgrid for students to share a video about what they found on a rock scavenger hunt. Mrs. Hobson has been posting picture books read aloud. Mr. Seidel has been using Google Forms for students to complete math assignments. Third grade has been doing weekly Zoom meetings with Homerooms to check-in with students and families. During Zoom with Homerooms, students have participated in show-and-tell, scavenger hunts, and have answered Would you rather? questions.
Junior high teachers were using Google Classroom, Google Docs, slides, and forms, and Flipgrid. Students enjoyed seeing friends virtually and were able to answer questions.
Some teachers are using Google Voice, and Jabber to contact students and parents and have the ability to text info as well. The JH Math teacher has been using Zoom to connect with students and has worked one-on-one with them to help with skills they are struggling with. There is a whiteboard feature available with Zoom. Sixth grade ELA students have Flipgrid Fridays where the teacher asks a question and the students respond with activities they have completed during the week.
Kindergarten has been using Google Sites and Facebook Live to communicate with their students.
Mrs. Wallace has had a Virtual Library set up reading to students as well as keeping track of their sight word challenges.
These are just a few of the examples of teachers teaching remotely. SC Staff has stepped up to meet the challenges of COVID-19.
