It’s Spirit Week at South Central Middle School! 🎉 Today is Twin Day—The students and staff grabbed a friend (or two!) and dressed alike to show off their school spirit.
Students who participate in spirit days earn Trojan Bucks 💵 that can be used for prizes and rewards. Don’t miss your chance to celebrate, have fun, and rack up those bucks!
It was so much fun to see those twins, triplets, and whole squads of matching outfits today!

Happy “High Five” Friday! The Junior High hallway celebrates making it to Friday and launching students into the weekend.. Every Friday morning, our teachers welcome students with a smile, encouragement, and of course—high fives! 🙌
It’s a simple way to start the day, but it makes a big impact. High Five Fridays build positive connections between students and staff, spread joy, and set the tone for a great day of learning.
We love seeing the excitement on our students’ faces as they walk into school knowing their teachers are there to cheer them on. 💛
Here’s to more happy mornings, big smiles, and lots of high fives!

At our latest House Competition, we played a hilarious new team-building game that had everyone laughing and cheering! The challenge? Work together to knock the cups off your opponents' head—but here’s the catch: it takes teamwork, quick thinking, and a whole lot of balance to pull it off.
This game wasn’t just about friendly competition—it was about encouragement and bonding. Watching teammates strategize, celebrate big wins, and laugh at near-misses reminded us why building connections is so important.
We can’t wait to bring more games like this to our House Challenges. Congratulations to the Ghost Crab Family who are a part of the Indian Ocean House.

The sixth graders in Mrs. Bute’s enjoyed a “book tasting” last Thursday. Our classroom library books were organized by genre and students found three books to read a few pages from and give each a rating. At the end of class, students decided their top choice and found their first novels of the year! If more than one student wanted the same book, they either talked it out and came to a compromise or had rock-paper-scissor match. We all enjoyed the book tasting and look forward to the next one!

🌟 September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month 🌟
This week, our school social worker, Ms. Johnston, and counselor, Mrs. Fishbaugh, joined students at middle school lunches on 9/8 to spread awareness about 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Students were invited to reflect on two important questions:
💬 Who is someone you can talk to when you need a boost or support?
💬 What helps you recharge when you’re feeling overwhelmed?
Together, we’re building a culture of connection, support, and hope. 💙 #SuicidePrevention #988 #YouAreNotAlone #SourcesOfStrength

The sixth graders in Mrs. Bute’s ELA classes participated in a show and tell on Friday. Students brought in various treasures, pictures and memories to share. Pictured are Olivia Bradford and Kasha Schrock. Olivia brought her first place medals earned at a karate competition along with her belt and clothing. Kasha shared her violin and even played it! Mrs. Bute is so proud of the students for having the courage to stand up in front of the class and share something important. Our support chairs really helped us feel brave as well!

In Mrs. White's 6th-grade science class, students participated in a cup stacking STEM activity. This activity was not only a STEM activity, but it was also a team-building activity. Students were challenged to work together to stack cups using string and a rubber band. These students chose this challenging design and worked as a team to complete this task. I asked these students how they were able to complete this challenging task, and they said, "We made sure that our tower was stable and could stay up, and we did it by communication and teamwork. We built our tower by making a square to stack the cups in a strong foundation, with the bottom cup with two cups, and then stacking them. We learned that you need to work together and that working together is the best way to work. We also learned that if you want to have success, you have to work together."
